NWS confirms tornado in Deer River

Monday’s storm system brought severe activity to several parts of Minnesota. Wednesday, the National Weather Service confirmed an additional two tornadoes touched down; one in Poplar Township, the other in Deer River. Both have been rated as an EF-1 tornado.

Our cameras were in Deer River Tuesday, visiting with residents cleaning up the destruction. Significant damage was done to the city’s funeral home, along with homes and garages.
A third tornado was confirmed earlier, touching down in Forada, Minnesota; just south of Alexandria. That was rated as an EF-2.
