Northland swimmers clinch spots in Section 7A finals during prelims

Northlander high school swimmers earned spots in the section final pool during the Section 7A swimming prelims Thursday at Lincoln Park Middle School.

The top 16 individuals in each event advance to the 7A finals.

In the 200 yard medley relay Grand Rapids took first place setting a Section 7A record with a time of 1:49.65. Sophia Verke, Hannah Rauzi, Rowan Krueger-Barth, and Emily Ericson made up the team. The old record of 1:51.33 was set by Mesabi East in 2018.

Grand Rapids Verke then won the 200 yard freestyle beating out Duluth Denfeld’s Addison Bartling by two seconds with a time of 2:00.39 to Bartling’s 2:02.51.

In the 200 yard individual medley Mesabi East’s Emma Williams beat Grand Rapids Alyssa Jackson by under three seconds with a winning time of 2:18.78.
