NCHC, WCHA announce commissioner changes

Both the UMD men’s and women’s hockey teams will see new leaders at the league level next season.

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), home to the Bulldog men, announced the hiring of Heather Weems as their next commissioner.

Currently the athletic director at St. Cloud State Univeristy, she’ll take over for Josh Fenton who departed to take the Summit Legue commissioner job. Weems will become the NCHC’s third commissioner, and the first woman in an active major men’s Division I league to officially take over the role.

Additionally Bulldog women’s hockey will see changes up top. Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) commissioner Jennifer Flowers is stepping down after three seasons to take over as the director of athletics at Southwest Minnesota State’s University.
