On the roads, motorcycles are working to raise more awareness about their presence.

Sunday afternoon, Abate of Wisconsin hosted an awareness rally at Campbell’s Lumber and Supply in Superior. This was their 13th annual event to remind drivers to stay alert when behind the wheel, and use extra caution around motorcycles.

"Because we are such a small figure in a rearview mirror, we can be easily missed," explained Dorrie Meyer, an Abate member. "So if we’re signaling to go into another lane and go past, we’ve had people just drive right into us because they’re not checking me out."

If you are driving and see a motorcyclist moving around a lot in their driving lane from side to side, it’s because they want to make sure you see them in your mirrors.

Since it’s beginning in the 1970’s, ABATE of Wisconsin has worked on a variety of issues, such as mandatory helmet and seat belt use laws, angle parking restriction, motorcycle equipment restrictions, promoting Rider Safety Courses, license renewal policies, and more.
