It was Ryan Anderson who claimed the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon championship, and Wade Marss second place, but the race for third place wasn’t so locked in. A tight battle Colleen and Ero Wallin, mother and son, would end with mama Colleen beating out Ero by three minutes.

"So the last one (volunteer checkpoint) I go by I’m like ‘what are the chances you guys know how far ahead of me my mom is’ and they’re like 30 seconds. I’m like wow this is going to be interesting, but then I never saw her from then, and I met her at the finish line," said Ero Wallin.

"You’re out there with your son, and the dogs that you both train up that you take care of, and love every day, it’s just very moving," said Colleen.

Colleen did it racing the Silver Creek Kennel puppy team. Running the varsity squad, Ero finished fourth this year which is two spots ahead of his 2021 Beargrease finish at 6th place.
