MnDOT provides update on Highway 53 road construction

Construction begins Monday, August 16th on two intersections of Highway 53 near Fayal Township and south of Eveleth. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, (MnDOT) These intersections will be worked on due to research of crash history and severity.

MnDOT will also add new turn lanes, a raised median, and an acceleration lane will be added at Highway 53 and Miller Trunk Road, just south of Eveleth. MnDOT says access from Miller Trunk Road to southbound Highway 53 will be permanently removed.

Drivers should expect lane closures during construction.

Access to northbound Highway 53 at Highway 53 and East Long Lake Road will be permanently removed. On the other side of the intersection, all access from Bodas Rd to Hwy 53 will be permanently removed.

A turnaround area will be installed at the closure spot. The permanent closures will take effect when construction starts, and a detour will be posted.
