Man arrested after Cass County cabin fire

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says a man was arrested after a fire at a cabin near Outing this week.

The fire happened Monday at a cabin on Lake Washburn in Crooked Lake Township. The cabin and a nearby pickup were fully engulfed in flames when responders arrived at the scene, and are considered total losses.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, fire personnel and deputies found forced entry to a garage with living quarters on the property. A 36-year-old Sartell man was found in the garage and arrested.

The sheriff’s office says the man has no connection with the property, but a search of Lake Washburn found that he had spent some time on the lake and may have been at other properties. Charges against him are pending.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is helping to investigate the cause of the fire.
