Former University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey netminder Maddie Rooney is returning to the Bulldogs as a new Volunteer Goaltending Consultant.

UMD’s all-time leader in saves is currently skating at Blaine’s Super Rink for the U.S. Women’s National Team residency program.

"Especially back into the home state here in Minnesota, we have a great setup. Great resources to us, and second day here just really excited to be back together," Rooney said. "We’ve had our typical routines in the past but now with everything going on the past couple years we all in committed again as a team. It’s just really great to get going."

Of the 28 players living and training at the residency 24 of them will be selected to the U.S. Olympic roster for the 2022 Beijing games.

Minnesota is well represented in the group with Rooney among six natives, plus four more with ties to the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The program includes practices and scrimmages, with one set for December 20th against Canada at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
