Loaded handgun dropped into Thunder Bay donation bin

Workers at a Thunder Bay thrift shop recently discovered a loaded handgun in a donation bin.

The Thunder Bay Police Service said in a Thursday news release that officers had responded to the Value Village on Memorial Avenue after receiving a report about the handgun. Police safely seized the firearm, a .22 caliber handgun.

There was no word of whether there was any way to identify the owner of the gun or the person who dropped it in the bin.

Though there is no ongoing firearm amnesty at this time in Thunder Bay, police say anyone who wants to surrender a weapon not involved in a crime to contact them at 807-684-1200 to arrange a transfer. Police say people who want to surrender firearms should not bring them to police headquarters.
