Drivers headed to or from Duluth’s Park Point neighborhood should be prepared for extra delays on Monday and Tuesday.

The Aerial Lift Bridge will be down to one lane of traffic for a routine inspection. The traffic lights on the bridge will control vehicular traffic, and one sidewalk will also be closed to pedestrians while the inspection is underway.

The inspection by the Minnesota Department of Transportation is done every two years to to meet state and federal guidelines.

"During the inspection, large pieces of equipment will be on the bridge," Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor David Campbell said in a news release. "Because inspectors will be walking in the portion of the roadway that is closed, we would like to ask for the public’s help in using caution while driving or walking on the bridge during this time, to ensure everyone’s safety."

The bridge also rises on the hour and half-hour for ship traffic, and at other times for larger ships.
