International Falls man accused of assault in Fort Frances

An International Falls man is being held in Canada while he faces several charges connected to an assault in Fort Frances.

Ontario Provincial Police say the assault with a weapon happened Thursday afternoon at a business on the 400 Block of Portage Avenue South. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

A 67-year-old International Falls man was arrested on charges of assault causing bodily harm, importing a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon, and unauthorized possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said in a news release Friday that the Canada Border Services Agency is assisting in the investigation and the man is being held under Section 59 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. A bail hearing is scheduled for Monday.
