On Tuesday night the Hermantown boys hockey team would begin their trek to the Xcel Energy Center and the Minnesota State High School Hockey tournament with a whole community sendoff.

The Hawks are focused on avenging last year’s state run which ended in the quarterfinals. Junior varsity skaters had to step up after a majority of varsity players were exposed to Covid-19.

Not allowing a single goal in this Section 7A tournament Hermantown (26-2) feels ready for the next step.

"I feel like we have a good team going this year. We’re pretty deep, have got a lot of lines," senior forward Gavin Blomdahl said. "Boys are ready to go. Been waiting two days now to get out there on the ice and we’re just happy to go to the ‘X’."

Senior defenseman Beau Janzig added, "we’re excited, we’re ready to battle back and show what we could have done last year and prove our point here. Growing up here rink ratting, it’s been great. We look up to the older guys and now we’re finally here ready to win a state championship."

Puck drop in the Class A quarterfinals Wednesday against New Prague is set for 6pm on WDIO.
