Hermantown postpones trail opening due to rain, smoke concerns

The City of Hermantown has postponed its trail opening celebration that was set for Tuesday. The rescheduled date has not been set.

City officials said a combination of rainy weather and concerns regarding the heavy wildfire smoke in the air led to the postponement.

The celebration was for the Boulder Trail, which runs through Stebner Park and was completed over the past two years as part of the Section 24 Trunk Sewer Spur project.

It is a 10-foot wide, non-motorized paved trail, which is expected to be maintained for year-round use and availability.

According to the city, this trail is one step in a long-term plan for a trail system that features city-wide connections. It will stretch from beyond the Essentia Wellness Center and Hermantown schools to the City’s southern border, before extending through Proctor and linking to the Willard Munger State Trail.
