The grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Birchwood Apartments in Duluth was held Tuesday afternoon.

The apartments will provide permanent supportive housing for 30 homeless adults who struggle with behavioral health issues.

"It’s just super exciting because it takes an awful lot of work and just a lot of people coming together to make this happen,” said Nancy Cashman, the Executive Director for Center City Housing. “We’re really excited that we’re going to be helping 30 people have housing that will help them. That’s why we’re here. That’s the work that we do. That’s our mission, so we’re just happy to be at this stage where we’re going to be moving people in soon."

Comprehensive supportive services will be available on site for all tenants including case management, transportation, and a 24-hour front desk staff.

The State of Minnesota, St. Louis County, and City of Duluth all contributed funds to the housing.

The Birchwood Apartments are located at 4710 Burning Tree Road.
