Swimming year-round for over 11 years, Duluth East junior Grant Wodny saw not one but two career dreams come true over the weekend. In the Minnesota State High School Boys Swim & Dive meet he raced to a pair of Class AA titles, which are the first-ever for the program.

"I believe the last time we won the event was over 60 years ago so that was great for the program," Wodny said. "Whole team dropped a lot of time this year. We had swimmers in eight events at state so it was a good year."

Wodny placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:29.19, and finished the 200 yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:38.73.

As a University of Minnesota Gopher commit, earning the hardware at his future home was the icing on the cake.

"It’s great. It’s an amazing pool, can’t wait ’till that’s my home pool," Wodny exclaimed. "Show what I can do down there. They’re a bit faster still so there’s still more work to be done."

Both of his winning state times also make him eligible for All-American consideration.
