Fisherman’s Corner Grand Opening

Matt King has wanted to own Fisherman’s Corner for years. King purchased the business four months ago, with some help from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

With the desire to promote the growth and diversity of cities through small businesses, SBDC provides free planning resources for new business owners. Working with SBDC to create a business plan, King purchased Fisherman’s Corner.

King changed the layout of the store and added new merchandise, including a clothing line. There is also a new website in the works that will allow customers to make purchases online. This will enable customers outside of Duluth to buy products that may not be available near them. King has been hard at work to make these changes, but not without the help of his family.

"I’m here every day,” King said. “My daughter works here pretty close to full-time. My son is here doing bait in the back, and my wife helps out with some of the bookkeeping stuff."

Fisherman’s Corner will have an “o-fish-al” Grand Opening on Saturday, complete with specials throughout the day, giveaway drawings every half hour, and free hot dogs during lunchtime. Store hours are 7am-7pm on Saturday.
