Fanti’s record performance leads UMD men’s hockey to tie, shootout win at St. Cloud

On Tuesday night the No. 8 University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team skated No. 11 St. Cloud State University to a 1-1 tie on the road. The Bulldogs earned the extra National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) point in the shootout.

Connor Kelley scored on the power play for the Bulldogs in the second period. The Huskies would tie it in the third and overtime would end scoreless. Noah Cates, in his return from the Olympics, and Quinn Olson scored during the shootout helping UMD win the extra point.

UMD netminder Ryan Fanti tallied a career-high 46 saves, as the Bulldogs penalty kill unit went a perfect 7-for-7 against the Huskies top power-play unit.

The Bulldogs (15-13-4) will next head to Miami University in Ohio for their regular season road finale Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 4pm.
