Family of four safe after canoe capsizes on Bear Head Lake

Police say that a family of four is safe after their canoe capsized on Bear Head Lake in the Bear Head State Park Saturday evening.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the report came in around 6:45pm that parents and their two children, age 11 and 15, had been canoeing when they hit a current that spun them around and capsized the canoe.

Police say that the initial report stated that three of the four had made it to shore, but a fourth person was missing.

When they arrived, emergency responders were able to locate all four from the canoe who were all able to drain the canoe and paddle back to the landing.

All four had life jackets. No one was injured.

Multiple agencies helped with the calling, including the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, the Eagles Nest Fire Department and others.
