This Sunday, John Keefover and Justin Ridlon will take the first steps of a 310-mile trek along the Superior Hiking Trail.

The pair will start in Jay Cooke State Park and through-hike the SHT up to the Canadian border.

"The Superior Hiking Trail is a special place. Just living in Duluth, a lot of people take it for granted," Keefover said. "It’s pretty incredible."

As a landscape photographer, he’s looking forward to capturing the unique beauty of the trail. But there is also a mission behind the miles. They are fundraising for the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center.

"They do so much for the area here," Keefover said. "The main thing we’re focusing on is their Superior View Hike Class, which brings 2,400 kids out on the trail every year. They teach them stewardship, ecology, and outdoor education."

They have raised about $1,500 so far. They’re suggesting people donate $310 each in honor of the mileage of the hike.

They hope to complete it in about 19 days, which would mean they’d finish by the end of June. The two will livestream their journey through a GPS tracker and hope to post on social media when they can.
