The City of Duluth won a sustainability award Thursday from the League of Minnesota Cities.

According to a press release, the Sustainable City Award recognizes places that are implementing some of GreenStep Cities‘ 29 best practices.

The city said its Climate Action Work Plan was a highlight of the award. A press release cited a few recent actions around the sustainability initiative:

  • A new vehicle replacement policy and gap funding to support lower emissions
  • Funding for a strategic facilities plan
  • Community forestry grants to replace trees killed by disease

The city hired Mindy Granley as a Sustainability Officer at the beginning of 2020.

Duluth is also hosting the annual League of Minnesota Cities conference.
