Duluth Police: Man killed on night of birthday

The Duluth Police Department has identified the victim of a weekend homicide as a man who had just marked his birthday.

Ryan Arthur Roessler turned 42 on Friday. Just after midnight Saturday morning, police responded to a medical/assault call in a Lakeside neighborhood residence and found Roessler unconscious. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, which was in the 100 block of North 54th Avenue East.

Police say Roessler had been punched in the head.

A police investigation found that Roessler had been in a physical altercation with a 46-year-old man, who was arrested Saturday and allegedly caused damage to a police interview room. Police said Saturday that the man faces a possible charge of first-degree manslaughter.
