The Duluth Police Department started a new community outreach initiative Wednesday morning called “Wednesday Walks.

“We’re looking forward to building relationships with our community, as we do every day, and this is really more a formal program for us to feature a different officer or a different member of our staff to communicate with our community,” said Chief Mike Tusken during his outing in Canal Park.

Tusken said each week from the department will get out into a different part of the city and they hope to be able to talk with all facets of the community.

"The effectiveness of policing is your ability to engage your community. The strength of our organization will always be the community we police with,” he explained. “If we have those relationships they won’t hesitate to call or reach out to us to solve problems together."

The next “Wednesday Walk” will be announced here.
