For the third time in four years, and now back-to-back seasons, the Proctor/Hermantown and Duluth Marshall girls hockey teams will face off in the Section 7A championship game.

"This year we’re even more excited and more confident going into this year’s playoffs," Marshall senior defenseman Laramie Prell said. "We are focusing more on ourselves and less on the opponent, and just taking each game one at a time and each practice one at a time."

In the semifinals last Saturday Duluth Marshall bested Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 5-1 to return to the title game. Next they’ll go up against an 18-7-1 Mirage squad who earned the 2-1 win over the Hilltoppers in their sole regular season meeting this year.

However, for the upcoming section final the Hilltoppers will be bringing more playoff experience fresh off their run last year and even more hungry for their first state tournament berth.

"Almost our full team has played in a section final game now. Only a handful of our players haven’t, and those players that have played in the one last year know exactly how it felt to not come out on top and to not have come and played our game. I know they’re ready for a little revenge tour and are really excited for it," Amanda Boulier said, head coach of the Hilltoppers.

Puck drop in the 7A title game is set for 7pm Wednesday at Virginia’s Iron Trail Motors Event Center.
