The Duluth City Council voted to select Hannah Alstead to fill a vacant council seat during a special meeting Monday.

Alstead will assume the fourth district seat that was previously held by the late Renee Van Nett.

During the interview process, Alstead shared some of her visions for the city.

"I think we all know that there are clear and present inequities across Duluth to accomplish this and building strong communities, we need to address this together, whether it’s transportation, roads, housing, workforce, child care, environmental justice, public safety," explained Alstead.

Alstead will be sworn on Wednesday.
