Driver charged after fatal crash on Ontario’s North Shore

The driver of a tractor-trailer unit faces a charge after a fatal crash along Ontario’s North Shore.

Ontario Provincial Police say the crash involving the tractor-trailer unit and a pickup truck happened on Saturday evening on Highway 17 near the Little Pic River Bridge, which is about 30 kilometers west of Marathon near Neys Provincial Park.

The driver of the pickup truck, 69-year-old David Hamilton of Schreiber, died at the scene of the crash.

The driver and passenger of the tractor-trailer unit were treated at a local hospital and releaesd. The OPP says the driver, 35-year-old Prabhjot Cheema of Brampton, has been charged with dangerous operation causing death.

Highway 17 was closed for about 14 hours following the crash for an investigation.
