It takes a lot of effort on and off the field for high school athletes to go through collegiate recruiting processes for one sport.

However Hibbing’s Bella Scaia decided to aim for the sky, and on Wednesday signed her National Letters of Intent to play both volleyball and softball at St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul.

"For the most part I was looking just to play volleyball," Scaia explained. "During the last Thanksgiving tournament I had for dome ball softball the St. Kate’s softball coach was there, wanted to talk to me, and that kind of got everything going. Then we set up a tour and I knew right after my tour."

For three straight seasons the libero appeared in every set of every match finishing with 943 career digs and a 96.7 serve percentage. Scaia, also a catcher, earned All-Conference honors in 2019.

She plans to study nursing at St. Kate’s.
