Death investigation results in arrest

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch says a 34-year old suspect is in custody in connection with the death of a 19-year old man in rural Cass Lake.

The Sheriff’s office says they received a report of a medical situation Saturday night, May 14th around 9:35 at a residence on Waboose Trail in Pike Bay Township.

According to the Sheriff’s office deputies arrived on scene and learned that a victim was suffering from a stab wound and immediately initiated first aid and lifesaving efforts. The 19-year old male victim was transported via ambulance to Cass Lake Indian Health Services where additional lifesaving efforts were performed and he was later pronounced deceased.

After an initial investigation a suspect was identified and taken into custody. The suspect was also treated for medical needs and formal charges pending.

Names are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members but the investigation is still underway.

Assisting at the scene were the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, Leech Lake Ambulance and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
