Dangerous swimming conditions issued for August 8-9
The Duluth Fire Department has issued a warning for dangerous swimming conditions in effect through 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 9. Officials want to remind residents and visitors of the high risk of rip currents.
The warning means that wind and wave conditions can support rip currents. Rip currents are life-threatening to anyone entering the water, no matter what swimming experience you may have. Authorities ask the public to stay out of the water. They say that even calm waters after storm activity can support rip currents, so wait for warnings to expire before entering the water.
Red flags are flying along Park Point Beach to indicate dangerous swimming conditions. Flag locations are located at the South Pier (South of Lift Bridge), 12th Street Beach, Lafayette Park, and two locations at the Park Point Beach House. The public will be notified if swimming conditions improve before this warning expires.
More information on conditions and rip currents can be found by visiting the Park Point Beach website at www.parkpointbeach.org.
