COVID-19 concerns on the rise in St. Louis County

The number of COVID-19 cases in St. Louis County are on the rise, causing the number of concerns to also go up.
“Right now it’s certainly pretty prevalent in our community where we are seeing a higher number of people getting sick with COVID”, says St. Louis County Public Health Division Director Amy Westbrook.
Right now, St. Louis County is in a high risk zone when it comes to COVID-19 transmission. This prompted city building mask mandates to return in Duluth.
When it comes to a citywide mask mandate, it’s up to the city rather than the county to implement a citywide mask mandate. And Duluth has yet to mention if they plan on issuing one.
Amy Westbrook explains where we are at with our COVID numbers saying, "Our numbers are comparable to where we were kind of mid fall in 2021, so certainly not at the height of OMICRON or even DELTA."

For students the recent rising of cases comes at an inopportune time, as many of them are getting ready to graduate in big ceremonies.
Duluth East is one school that is monitoring the situation. As of right now their graduation will be indoors without masks required. Principle Danette Seboe says that there is also no chance that their ceremony will be canceled.
Westbrook says, “It’s just an important reminder to understand where we are with transmission. Hopefully we will be coming down soon and we continue to see that decrease."
