Cloquet softball holds off Grand Rapids in high scoring Section 7AAA opener

Cloquet softball emerged victorious in a high scoring Section 7AAA tournament opener against Grand Rapids Thursday.
The third seeded Lumberjacks would pull off the 16-12 win after a back-and-forth battle with the sixth seeded Thunderhawks at Braun Park.
Cloquet advances to face second seeded Chisago Lakes in the quarterfinals Saturday at 11am at Braun Park. Grand Rapids falls to the elimination bracket where they’ll face Denfeldd Saturday, also at 11am at Braun Park.

Across the border, Superior, Northwestern, and Northwood/Solon Springs picked up regional titles. In Division One, #5 Superior downed #4 New Richmond 2-0, in Division Three #2 Northwestern bested #3 Spooner 6-2, and in Division Four #4 Northwood/Solon Springs upset #1 Phillips 1-0.
