Child dies of injuries from Waukesha crash, 6th death

An 8-year-old boy is the sixth person to die as a result of a man driving his SUV into a suburban Milwaukee Christmas parade.

Jackson Sparks was the first child to die from the crash.

Meanwhile, the man accused of driving an SUV into the parade made his initial court appearance Tuesday. 39-year-old Darrell Brooks Jr. faces charges of intentional homicide. Conviction on first-degree intentional homicide would carry a mandatory life sentence.

Police say Brooks had just left the scene of a domestic disturbance when he drove past a police squad car and barricade and onto the parade route.

Authorities say 62 people were injured, including many children. Several remain in critical condition.

Prosecutors said additional charges are pending.

Brooks was free on $1,000 bail posted just two days before the deadly event, a fact that is leading to a review of what happened.
