Cause of fatal Ashland fire under investigation

The Wisconsin State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping the Ashland Fire Department investigate the cause of a fatal fire on Monday evening.

The fire in a single-family home at 1418 Beaser Avenue was reported at about 10:27 p.m. Police officers were first to arrive at the scene and found a "large amount of fire coming from the front window," according to a news release from the Ashland Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within ten minutes.

They located a deceased person and two deceased cats in the home. The person’s name is being withheld because family members are still being notified.

The cause of death will be determined by the Ashland County Coroner.

The Mason and Washburn fire departments also assisted with the fire response.
