Captain Kickoff launches fundraising for Walk to End Alzheimer’s

It’s never too early to start fundraising for a good cause. Every year, the Alzheimer’s Association helps millions of families navigate a diagnosis.

One of the biggest fundraising events in the Northland is the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Aubrey Hagen, one of the co-chairs of the Duluth walk, got involved after her mother was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s.

"I had a really sad moment when I called the Alzheimer’s Association crying, and I said, ‘I need help,’ you know, ‘I can’t make my mom happy. She’s so upset,’" Hagen said. "And they were really wonderful and supportive, and that made me want to get involved."

Thursday was the first of two Captain Kickoff events. Teams could get signed up for the walk and start collecting donations.

"The earlier you start fundraising, the more potential you have to earn the really great fundraising prizes and to really get those numbers up," Hagen said.

There is another Captain Kickoff from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 21 at the Alzheimer’s Association office in Hermantown.

The walk is set for Sept. 10.
