On Thursday the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) celebrated the legendary careers of Karen Stromme and Dr. Gary Holquist ahead of their retirements this June. Together they combined for over 75 years of involvement in the Athletics Department.

Stromme is currently the Senior Associate Athletic Director and Women’s Administrator at UMD while Holquist, her husband, is the Senior Development Officer for Athletics.

Stromme held numerous positions in nearly 40 years with the department, including 21 seasons as head coach of the women’s basketball team.

Holquist joined the Bulldogs staff in 1986, serving in his current role since 2012. This came after he spent 14 seasons as the head men’s basketball coach, having spent 26 total years with the program.
