Saturday in Northland boy scouts were working on earning their railroad merit badges down at the Depot.

This was all in part of their spring camporee program, Saturday being a combination of what they are calling "rails and woods". Starting at the Depot and heading up to Tom’s Logging Camp.

The scouts were there to learn more of the railway’s history. And coincidentally learning about how scouts used to travel way back in the 30’s and 40’s.

Both scouts from Duluth and Northern Wisconsin attended the venture.

Clark Garthwait District Director says, "[They’re] learning about the way things used to be, how convenient they have things of today, and learning the history and just having fun.”

Garthwait says around 180 of their people were down at the Depot, with the scouts then getting their forestry badges Sunday at the logging camp.
