Border Patrol weighs in on tragic smuggling incident

The problem of illegal border crossings is a reality in the Northland, although many of us may think it’s not an issue compared to the Mexican border.

"We do see migrant crossings on a regular basis," Anthony Good told us. He’s the Chief Patrol Agent for the Grand Forks Sector.

A tragic attempted crossing lead to the death of four Indian nationals. A Florida man is in custody, and authorities continue to investigate who else may be involved. Here are more details from the Story from Thursday

"The smugglers coordinating these type of things, don’t care about human life. They are very callous. All they care about is money," Good shared. "When a smuggler approaches you and says they can get you in, don’t do it. It could cost you your life."

He said their agency has plenty of programs in place to help with resiliency, since agents do run into situations like death and terrible injury. Plus they are often tasked with going down to the Southern border, which takes people away from their families.

As for the problem of border security, he said that all people in the community can help be eyes and ears. "Border security involves everyone. We definitely need the community to report things to us, or law enforcement in general. We have phenomenal partnerships," Good said.
