A bomb squad has determined that some suspicious items found in a Superior home are not explosive, but there were two commercial fireworks in the residence.

Superior authorities called the Marathon County Bomb Squad from central Wisconsin to the home in the 1600 block of Baxter Avenue on Thursday afternoon. Contractors removing contents from the home had located suspcious items on a table in the basement and called 911.

Police say former residents of the home provided an explanation for some of the devices, but the department erred on the side of caution. The area around the home was closed while the team investigated the devices.

In an update Friday, Superior Police said what appeared to be five sticks of dynamite with a timing device was a stage prop and completely inert. Multiple jars of powder-like substances were found not to be explosive.

However, two of the items were commercial fireworks, and were removed for disposal.

Police say their Investigations Division is reviewing the incident.
