Blair, Simonet honored as UMD men’s & women’s basketball sweep SMSU

In between Friday night’s games University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) basketball’s Drew Blair and Ann Simonet were each honored for recently reaching 1,000 career points. Blair is a redshirt junior guard while Simonet is a fifth year guard.

Before the ceremony the UMD women’s basketball team defeated Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) 65-49 to notch their seventh straight win and improve to 15-4. Brooke Olson led the way scoring 18 points.

Then the No. 11 men took down SMSU 91-62 to improve to 18-2. The Bulldogs were led by Austin Andrews tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams are set to host the University of Sioux Falls Saturday. The women will tip-off at 3:30pm and the men at 5:30pm. For fans planning to attend, UMD is now requiring proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test result from a third-party source not an at home test.
