There is nothing quite like walking across Duluth’s iconic Lift Bridge. To preserve that experience, the City of Duluth is repairing both sides of the bridge’s sidewalk.

Work will begin Monday, August 16th and go for at least a week.

Dave Campbel, Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor, said that contractors will be working to flatten portions of the sidewalk that have buckled due to both weather and decades of foot traffic.

They will begin on the Bay side and work their way to the Lake side.

"We’re going to kind of jump back and forth," Campbel said. "We’ll mostly be on the Bay side, but we do have a couple of spots on the Lake side that we are starting with because that gets the most traffic."

During this time, Campbel said that one side of the sidewalk will always be open to pedestrians.

He advised those walking under the lift bridge during this time to use caution.

"Just kind of keep an eye out if you are going underneath for safety purposes," Campbel said.

Work will be conducted from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Crews hope to finish the project this week, but it could go longer if necessary.
