1 dead, 5 injured in a collapsed building in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Philadelphia fire officials say one firefighter has died following a building collapse early Saturday. Deputy Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy did not identify the fallen firefighter, but said he had been a 27-year department veteran. Four other firefighters and an inspector with the city’s Department of Licenses and Inspections had been rescued from the rubble.

They were taken to hospitals and said to be in stable condition. Numerous firefighters were at the scene as the rescue effort unfolded. Multiple news outlets reported seeing firefighters hugging or wiping tears from their eyes.
