1 dead, 4 injured in Burnett County head-on crash

One person was killed and 4 others were injured when snowy conditions caused a head-on collision in Burnett County.

The crash happened at approximately 11:22 a.m. on Monday on Highway 70 in Sand Lake Township, east of Siren.

According to the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office, a Chrysler Town and Country minivan traveling westbound crossed the centerline and collided with a Honda Civic, which was traveling east.

Authorities say the driver of the Honda Civic was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated. The other people injured in the crash were taken to the hospital by helicopter or ambulance.

The Sheriff’s Office was originally told five people were injured in the crash but later notified that the driver of the Honda Civic passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.

North Ambulance, North Air Care, Lifelink Air Care, Siren Fire Department, Webster Fire Department, St. Croix Hertel Fire Department, Burnett County Highway Department and St. Croix Tribal Police Department responded to the crash.
