It’s another morning commute with slippery roads to be mindful of. Wet conditions from yesterday have turned icy with early morning temps mostly in the teens. Occasional snow showers remain possible today, but additional accumulation for much of the Northland will be minimal. The exception will be the South Shore where lake effect snow will bring rapidly deteriorating travel conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Bayfield Co. and Ashland Co. until 6 am where localized accumulations around 6” are possible. Amounts increase moving east, with 12-18” possible locally for parts of Iron Co. and Gogebic Co. These areas are in a Winter Storm Warning through Friday morning.

Friday features a wind shift out of the southwest that will give the South Shore a short-lived break from snow. Snow chances return to the Northland Friday evening from the northwest. This quick round rolls through most areas overnight with a passing cold front. This blast of even colder air carried by a breezy northwest wind will redirect lake effect chances to South Shore communities through the day Saturday.

Temperatures will be well below average Friday through Sunday morning. A quieter and slightly warmer stretch arrives Sunday into the start of next week.
