Touchstone Honoree: Well Being Development in Ely is helping people in recovery

Well Being Development is helping people live healthier lives in the Ely area.

One of their programs is the Northern Lights Clubhouse. Tucked in the basement of an old bowling alley, it’s where people living with and recovering from mental illness can gather and enjoy a safe space and camaraderie.

Wednesday, there was a lunch. Other times they do crafts, go on hikes, or even make meals together.

Members told us they have met friends and helped connect in this community.

Also part of WBD is the Ely Behavioral Health Network, which is a group of government, health care providers, and non-profits working together to support mental and behavioral health.

WBD is hoping to bring peer recovery specialists to Ely, who can help people on their journey of recovery.

A grant from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation helped them lay the groundwork for such a service.

The Clubhouse is looking for a new home. They are currently under the bowling alley, but the lease is up next summer.

The hope is to find a spot close to Sheridan Street, with space for other WBD needs.

If you have a house or building to rent or are able to donate to Well Being Development, please contact the office at 218-235–6104 or email Executive Director Kap Wilkes: kapw@elywbd.org

WBD has been selected by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation as a Touchstone Honoree for their work.

The Touchstone Celebration will air on Thursday, November 10th, at 6:30pm.
