Friday was the start of the Duluth 709 Baseball’s, Art Von Memorial Tournament in a packed Lake Park Athletic Complex.

The event that consisted of of over 149 games, including 64 9U and 14U teams.

To make all that run smoothy though takes alot of effort, not only from from volunteers, but also a grand total of 37 umpires that call all these games.

“It has been pretty amazing what we have been able to accomplsh for this tournament. We have two umpires for every game. There is close to 150 games and that’s not something you see a lot in youth tournaments. Usually it is only one umpire, but we are able to have a lot of people that want to work,” said umpire Keith Johnson.

“Awesome community up here, there is a ton of man power that goes into this. Hours and hours spent behind the scenes with countless parents and the kids obviously have a blast playing ball,” concluded volunteer Sara Mathias.
