Mt. Iron-Buhl High School hosted an oversight field hearing of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources called “Examining the Mineral Wealth of Northern Minnesota.”

Three panelists addressed the group of federal lawmakers. They represented perspectives from Talon Metals, from a geologist, and from a resort owner from Ely.

Mining supporters filled the auditorium.

Congressman Pete Stauber said he was disappointed none of the Democrats on the committee accepted the invitation to come.

The group also toured NewRange Copper Nickel before the hearing.

Friends of the Boundary Waters sent a statement, calling the hearing a political stunt.
