A man is in jail, accused of concealing the body of a woman who was found dead in Sawyer County last week, as authorities continue to investigate who caused her death.

Sawyer County Sheriff Douglas Mrotek confirmed that a man arrested last week is facing a charge of concealing a corpse. However, Mrotek said they are still investigating who caused the death of 42-year-old Cary Lynne Elkin of rural Stone Lake.

Charges against the man have not appeared in online court records, but he remained in the Sawyer County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon.

Mrotek said deputies found Elkin dead with multiple gunshot wounds at a residence on Hungry Lake Lane in the Town of Sand Lake just after midnight on Friday morning. They had been responding to a report of a deceased woman.

Mrotek said the Wisconsin Department of Justice is assisting his office to follow up on leads, but they do not have suspect information to release at this time.

He asks anyone with information on the case to call the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office at 715-634-4858 or 715-634-5213.
