No date set for return to Spooner Middle School

The Spooner School District says there’s no date set for students to return to in-person learning at Spooner Middle School.

Classes haven’t been held in the building since a "strong epoxy-like odor" led to an evacuation and medical treatment for dozens of students and staff on Nov. 10. The school used remote learning during the week of Nov. 15 and has been on Thanksgiving break this week.

The district said in an update Wednesday that the source of the odor still has not been confirmed and the building remains closed at the order of the Spooner Fire Department.

"Teachers are working with their classes using a variety of instructional tools as they continue to facilitate student learning remotely. Students have a remarkable job staying actively engaged in remote learning and online attendance levels have been positive. Spooner Middle School teachers and support staff have gone the extra mile to support students and families during this unpredicted period of remote learning," a district news release said.

Laboratory analysis of environmental sampling is expected to be available by Dec. 10.

In-person classes have continued as normal at other Spooner schools.
