Bayfield County officials say a logging truck driver died in an accident Monday morning. Thursday, they identified him as 76-year-old Gary Sanborn of Ashland, Wis.
Around 9:53 a.m., the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office responded to an overturned logging truck on Ondossagon Road, in Washburn Township.
The truck was going southbound carrying timber logs. According to authorities, tire marks along the roadway show the driver went off the shoulder and attempted to drive back onto the road before overturning. Details have not been released about what led up to the accident.
Sanborn was found unresponsive inside the cab. He was removed by Sheriff's deputies, EMS/paramedics, and a nearby resident. After unsuccessful life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead.
