A man died when his vehicle went down an embankment near the Brule River on Wednesday evening.

The crash was reported at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 13 just east of Town Park Road in the Town of Cloverland. Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec says it appears the automobile failed to negotiate the curve and went down the embankment.

Twenty-three-year-old Daniel C. Schiefelbein, of the Town of Brule, died in the crash. Schiefelbein was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The Cloverland Volunteer Fire Department assisted the sheriff's office at the scene. The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office.
