A dam break prompted a flash flood warning for Sawyer County Wednesday night.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office said a dam on the Moquito Brook Flowage failed. It happened in the Town of Lenroot, which is about 4 miles northeast of Hayward.

Authorities say water ran over Porky's Road and headed toward Mosquito Brook Springs and Mosquito Brook Road.

The Sawyer County Record reported eight homeowners were stranded and that the flood was about 100 feet wide and 2 feet deep.

Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, the Hayward area got about 2.25 inches of rain.
